Summary: Hanging Lake Trail Construction
Description: Come help repair one of the most heavily visited trails in Colorado which sees more than 2,000 visitors hiking the trail on a summer Saturday. Hanging Lake Trail is widely known because of its proximity and easy access from I-70, the beautiful Spouting Rock waterfall and spectacular coloration of the 1.5 acre travertine lake at the trail's end. Volunteers will do some heavy duty rock work on the trail which was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. This trail is severely worn down and is experiencing extreme erosion as a result of the traffic that visits Hanging Lake every year. Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado will rebuild this trail and build stone steps and rock walls in order to keep the trail sustainable and capable of safely handling the significant volume of hikers.
