Summary: Pine Beetle Campground Mitigation
Description: Pine Beetles are changing the way our Colorado high-country looks, but what can you do to help? As a result of devastating Pine Beetle damage, many trees have been cut down and removed to prevent further outbreaks and campgrounds were closed. Join Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado as we harvest saplings from surrounding forests and replant them in select campground on US Forest Service land that have been closed after pine beetle mitigation (logging). Replanting trees in USFS campgrounds improves the camping experience by providing more shelter and privacy in the campsites, and helps to thin new stands of lodge pole pine, which mitigates the forest health problems that precipitated our current pine beetle issues. Bring the whole family and enjoy a weekend in Summit County working to rebuild our forests.
