Start Date-End Date: 01/08/2010-09/30/2010 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Description: The US Forest Service is looking for "Riding Buddies" to accompany novice solo riders in the Rio Grande National Forest. The SLV Public Lands Center is compiling a list of people who like to ride and have a flexible weekday schedule. Volunteers would receive a phone call about 2-7 days in advance of the ride date to see if they are available. So, whether it is a leisurely ride to Duck Lake, or a ride on the rugged and steep ride trails of the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, you will be sure to have a good time while helping to provide a safe trip for your Forest Service employees. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Participants must: - Be experienced riders - Enter into a volunteer agreement with the Forest Service - Complete a FREE 2-day USFS Horseman training - Have a flexible schedule - Have confidence riding over all terrain - Be ready and willing to have a good time _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A horse and necessary tack will be provided for use. If you prefer, you are welcome to use your own horse and tack, but your horse needs to have a gentle disposition and able to handle even the most challenging mountain trail situations.
