Start Date-End Date: 05/15/2011-09/09/2011 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Description: The San Luis Valley Public Lands Center (Saguache, CO) is looking for a friendly person to work as a back-up VIS (Visitor's Information Specialist). The ideal candidate would have knowledge of the area and would be available to work from 10am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. At minimum the volunteer must be able to work both Mondays and Fridays. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Major Duties include but are not limited to: Answering both internal and external phone calls. Welcoming visitors and provide answers to reoccurring questions that relate to both the US Forest Service and the BLM. Offer suggestions and provide directions to interesting locals on our the public lands. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VIS employees deal with a wide variety of individuals, varying ages, abilities, personalities, and needs, courtesy and customer service is always the priority. Work is often completed independently according to established procedures. Some light lifting will be required. Standing or sitting for long periods of time is not uncommon. Applicants must have good listening skills, enjoy meeting and helping people, and have good attention to details. In addition, the applicant must be reliable and a team player, and enjoy learning about and sharing knowledge of park resources.
