Summary:
Description: On Saturday, February 12th 25 high school students and 5 adult mentors from the Cairn Youth Program set off on a leadership and teambuilding retreat. The group traveled to North Catamount Reservoir beneath the slopes of Pikes Peak where they spent the day snowshoeing and practicing shelter building and wilderness survival techniques. After the hike, the group headed to the La Foret Conference and Retreat Center where they spent the evening playing games, roasting s'mores and reflecting on a day well spent.
Sunday provided time for a series of leadership and team building initiatives such as: helium stick, trust walk, and blind polygon. These activities challenged students to improve their communication skills, to work as a team and to think through creative solutions to complex problems. After lunch, adult mentors led small group discussions to help the students plan many different aspects of their culminating project, which will take place in April. The sleepy smiling faces on the van ride home told the tale of a fun filled weekend, just one of many in this year's Cairn Youth Program.
