Summary:
Description: On Saturday, January 15, twenty two students from the Cairn Youth Program joined five adult mentors to get an inside view of Boulder County's innovative recycling efforts. Students received behind the scenes tours of the Boulder Recycling Center as well as the nationally recognized Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHARM). At the Boulder Recycling Center students saw the complicated series of machines that sort truckloads of recycled goods, from tiny shards of glass to large pieces of cardboard. At CHARM, students learned how items that aren't accepted in their curbside recycling bins such as Styrofoam, textiles and electronics can be responsibly recycled so they don't end up clogging our landfills or leaching dangerous chemicals into our waterways. In the afternoon, students capped off this fun January outing with a short hike in Chautauqua Park.
