Need a vacation? Eager to make a difference? Do both on Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado's Stewardship Adventure on the Colorado River. VOC volunteers will enjoy a four-day river trip down the extraordinary Colorado River through the Bureau of Land Management's McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, while helping remove drought-causing tamarisk trees and replanting river banks with native cottonwood seedlings. The surrounding area is part of BLM's National Landscape Conservation System and offers spectacular canyon and river scenery. Volunteers will paddle the peaceful waters of Horsethief and Ruby Canyons of the Colorado River in canoes furnished by Centennial Canoe Outfitters. No canoe experience necessary! In addition to project work, volunteers will be able to enjoy canyon hikes into the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area, participate in discussions with naturalists and BLM park rangers, and be treated to great food and nightly entertainment.
This project earned VOC and Centennial Canoe the Bureau of Land Management's highest award for volunteerism presented in May 2009 by U.S. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar. The two partners continue the project for the fourth year this September with the BLM.
There is a $200 non-refundable fee. Registrants' spots are not reserved until payment is made in full. Camping and food will be provided for the duration of the project, although volunteers must find their own accommodations on Wednesday night before the launch Thursday morning.

Description of Work Completed: For the 4th year in a row, VOC partnered with Centennial Canoe and the BLM for a great project on the Colorado River. 45 volunteers spent September 8-11 taking in breathtaking views while removing 3 acres of tamarisk and creating 14 huge slash piles. Highlights of the trip included spotting 4 bald eagles and many small lizards as volunteers canoed and camped along the river. Thank you to all volunteers who travelled near and far to help protect this Colorado landscape while enjoying each other
