Description: Join VOC to help restore the Cumbres Pass section of the Continental Divide Trail in southern Colorado's Rio Grande National Forest. A number of years ago, this section of trail was rerouted, and the original trail has been damaged due to wind, water and fallen trees. It is now time to revitalize the trail and restore it to its original form. Volunteers will restore the tread, install water diversion structures, and construct some rock features, all of which will improve the sustainability of this trail. Once completed, this popular trail will have a consistent grade, beautiful views of the valley, stream crossings, and waterfalls. Hikers, bikers, and horseback riders will be able to enjoy stunning views overlooking both Colorado and New Mexico. Not only will your efforts reopening this trail provide great recreational opportunities, they will entice more visitors and benefit the local economy. There is no fee for this project. Free camping is provided Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Free meals are provided beginning with Saturday morning breakfast and ending with Sunday lunch.
