Summary:
Description: In the rough and tumble gold mining days of the 1890s, Duncan Cabin was part of a mining camp with a population of as many as 3,000 people. Today only this one cabin, located at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Range, remains to tell the story.
Volunteers are needed to help restore the log cabin to its original condition, (circa 1890) once the preservation work is complete, this cabin will be available for public rental. Volunteers will learn to shape replacement logs, apply chinking and daubing, as well as cedar shingle the roof. This is a great opportunity to help preserve one of the San Luis Valley's cultural landmarks while enjoying the Valley's beautify landscapes.
Due to the nature of this project, I'm asking that volunteers commit to all three days. *All meals will be provided and free camping will be available just west of Crestone, CO. If you are a local, and would like to commute home each night, I ask that you return to the campground no later than 8am each morning, so we can commute to the site as a group.
