Summary: Spend a weekend at Breckenridge's Little Mountain with VOC
Description: Little Mountain is just that -- a small mountain directly adjacent to the Town of Breckenridge, offering expansive views of the town and the Breckenridge Ski Area. The mountain's trail network starts at the town's Stephen C. West Ice Arena (and the VOC-camping area), providing immediate non-motorized access for trail users coming from the center of the town, and radiates into more remote backcountry areas. Little Mountain contains several historical mine sites and cabins of note, and a memorial bench at the summit maintained by volunteers.
The Little Mountain trail network was user-created, largely by an equestrian concessionaire that dates back to when the Ice Arena area was the Town of Breckenridge's rodeo grounds. As a result, the trails are poorly aligned and deeply incised. VOC volunteers will realign sections of the steepest trails, improve drainage on other trail sections, and construct new trail to replace the existing, eroded routes. The majority of the work will be basic trail construction, closure, drainage work, and re-vegetation. Building a few rock walls may be necessary. The trailhead is located at the town's Ice Arena, where VOC volunteers will camp. The worksite is easily accessible and literally steps away!
There is no fee for this project. Free camping is provided Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Free meals are provided beginning with Saturday morning breakfast and ending with Sunday lunch.

Description of Accidents/Incidents:
Description of Work Completed: 84 volunteers spent the weekend of July 23-24 restoring the Little Mountain trails in Breckenridge. Over the weekend, volunteers constructed 1,600 feet of new trail, closed off 629 feet of trail, removed stumps, transplanted trees, and installed culverts, check dams, and ramps. As a thank you for their hard work, volunteers were treated to celebration on Saturday night with music by the Pine Beetles bluegrass band! Thanks to our partners, the Town of Breckenridge and Breckenridge Brewery for a great weekend.
