Summary: Spend National Public Lands Day repairing one of the most heavily visited trails in Colorado.
Description: Spend National Public Lands Day repairing one of the most heavily visited trails in Colorado. Because of its proximity to I-70, the beautiful Spouting Rock waterfall, and the spectacular coloration of the 1.5 acre travertine lake at the trail's end, the Hanging Lake Trail sees more than 2,000 visitors on any given summer Saturday. VOC volunteers will return to Hanging Lake to continue work with the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers to do some heavy duty rock work on the trail originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Volunteers will build and rebuild stone steps and rock walls to keep the trail sustainable and able to safely handle the volume of hikers. You don't want to miss the opportunity to work on this fantastic trail!
There is no fee for this project. Free camping is provided Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Free meals are provided beginning with Saturday morning breakfast and ending with Sunday lunch.

Description of Work Completed: On September 24-25, about 130 VOC volunteers spent National Public Lands Day restoring the popular Hanging Lake trail near Glenwood Springs. Volunteers built approximately 170 rock steps on this trail, which sees over 80,000 visitors each year! Not only did everyone work hard, they enjoyed the beautiful fall weather, met great fellow volunteers, ate delicious food, and got to soak in the Glenwood Springs hot springs on Saturday night! This project was named in honor of long time VOC volunteer Mike O
