Description: Roll up your sleeves and help build switchbacks, rock walls, and drainage crossings as VOC continues its partnership with Lory State Park this year, constructing and restoring a sustainable route for hikers, bikers, and equestrians on the Lory Mountain Loop. The Mill Creek Link is a heavy-use trail, with access to 5,000 acres of state and county land that has existed for decades. Due to its heavy use and age, the trail is in a rather deteriorated condition. Volunteers will be replacing and adding steps and water bars to a heavily eroded section of trail. Other work will include replacing wooden steps with rock steps, as needed, installing rock armoring along trailside seeps, creating drainages, and restoring existing drainage and tread. An Outdoor Stewardship Institute optional, associated Rock Skills training on Friday, May 20 will be a terrific way to learn the proper steps for switchback construction. There is no fee for this project. Free camping is provided Friday night through Sunday afternoon.
