Start Date-End Date: 05/21/2011-05/22/2011 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Help restore historic Colorado structures on this weekend opportunity! Description: On this weekend-long historic preservation project, volunteers will have the opportunity to work at the Mountain Park Picnic Shelter and the Arrowhead Lodge, both constructed in the 1930s along the Poudre River. The picnic shelter, originally constructed by the Works Progress Administration and expanded by the Civilian Conservation Corps, has suffered from deferred maintenance and requires a new cedar shingle roof, windows, shutters and a door. The Arrowhead Lodge buildings, used in the 30s as cabin rentals and a lodge, require new roofs as well. On this project, volunteers will learn to repair roof decking, shingle cedar and asphalt roofs, reconstruct historic pine tree motif shutters and install historically accurate windows and doors. For anyone interested in learning or expanding construction techniques, this is a project you don't want to miss! There is no fee for this project. Free food and camping will be provided.
