Start Date-End Date: 08/19/2011-08/19/2011 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Help plant orchard trees to provide an educational tool and fruit for the community! Description: VOC is teaming up with Slow Food Denver, Grow Local Colorado, and Greater Denver Urban Homesteaders to plant a fruit orchard at the Urban Farm at Stapleton (TUF). The orchard will serve as a nutrition education center for area school children and become a source of fresh fruit for the community. Adults participating through the Orchard Crop Mob will provide the muscle to the children so that the trees are planted in a single day. There is no fee for this project. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Latitude/Longitude: 39.766169, -104.870544 Additional Information: Went smoothly - for the number of partnering agencies, communication was OK. Could be a little better, as I wasn't sure how much involvement VOC volunteers were going to have with Columbine Elementary. Adults ended up teaming up with youth to plant trees, luckily we didn't have any adults that had issue with working with youth. Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed: 43 trees donated by the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation 40 volunteers (30 from the VOC list, about 10 from GroundWork) 50 5th/6th-grade kids from Columbine Elementary (DPS).
