Description

Start Date-End Date: 10/15/2011-10/15/2011 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Spend the day at VOC's own Wash Park, Denver's most popular park! Description: FAMILY FRIENDLY Washington Park is arguably the most popular park in the Denver Parks system. Designed by German landscape architect Reinhard Scheutze in the late 1800s when the Wash Park neighborhood was in its infancy, the park is now visited by over 4,000 visitors on any given summer weekend. The park's 165 acres are home to several historic buildings including The Dos Chappell Bathhouse, home office of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado. The park also boasts 2 lakes, 1 pond, 54 flower beds, 1 recreation center, 10 tennis courts, and the Wash Park Loop, a 2.5 mile trail which covers the entire perimeter of the park. Due to the sheer volume of visitors to the park, the Wash Park Loop is in sore need of some TLC. The trail was originally constructed by over 800 VOC volunteers in 1993 and is need of another layer of crusher fine gravel to restore some of the rutted sections of the trail that currently present safety hazards to visitors. There is no fee for this project. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please join us after the project, from 12:30-2pm to celebrate the completion of the Wash Park trail and the end of the 2011 VOC project season! This is a great chance to reunite with all the friends you've made on VOC projects this year. There will be snacks, music, games, and more! The post-project celebration is open to all VOC volunteers and the public.
