Start Date-End Date: 05/05/2012-05/06/2012 Land Manager Office: BLM - Uncompahgre Field Office Land Manager Contact: Jennifer Grablander Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: This project has been cancelled. Description: VOC and the BLM have decided that we must cancel the Coyote Wash By-Pass ATV Trail Construction project, planned for this coming weekend, May 5-6. Unfortunately, not enough people signed up for this project to meet our minimum volunteer requirements. We simply would not be able to accomplish the work planned for this weekend with the amount of volunteers committed. Thank you very much for your enthusiasm for this project. VOC projects are rarely cancelled, and we hope this does not deter you from volunteering with us again. STEWARDSHIP SITELocated in the Southwestern part of the state, the Coyote Wash By-Pass Trail offers terrific views of the West Elk and San Juan mountain ranges. The trail resides on Bureau of Land Management land, and is popular with ATV, dirt bike, and mountain bike users in the local area. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Come out for a rewarding weekend of trail construction in Southwest Colorado. We'll be working to complete a 2-mile, re-routed section of the Coyote Wash trail that will enable the loop to re-open. The new section will help users avoid damaging sensitive riparian (river) habitat. You'll have the opportunity to learn techniques for sustainable new trail construction as we lay in new trail using hand tools and rock equipment. There will be a strong emphasis on teamwork as groups work together to build this new trail. The trail will be built to International Biking standards for multi-use. Some areas require walking greater than a distance of 1 mile with tools, and some strenuous trail building and rock work. The terrain is characterized as moderate and to steep.
