Summary: Prepare the beds for a vegetable garden at the Colorado Governor's Mansion
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
The Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion is located in the heart of Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Originally built as a private residence in 1908, the house has been available for use by Governors since 1960.Today, itis open for scheduled tours and special public events. It's also the location of new vegetable gardens that were first planted by volunteers with Grow Local and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado in 2011. Called the First Family's Giving Garden, produce grown is then donated to area shelters.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
Join us as we return to the Boettcher Mansion for a second year of working in the First Family's Giving Garden. For this project, we'll be preparing the vegetable garden beds for planting. Help weed beds, amend soil, haul compost, and work the soil. The beds will be planted by volunteers later in May with plants donated by Governor Hickenlooper. The produce grown will be donated to The Gathering Place, a women's shelter.
