Start Date-End Date: 04/21/2012-04/21/2012 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Help improve wildlife habitat this Earth Day Weekend Description: Some of the fences are in poor condition or are not needed anymore and are unsafe for some of the large ungulates using the area. The primary purpose of the project is to allow wildlife, particularly deer and elk safe movement throughout the property. We will be improving the habitat by removing some of these old fence lines. This entails cutting the barbed wire into manageable sections, rolling it up, pulling up old t-posts and wooden posts, and packing out the old material to be hauled off and recycled. Leather hiking boots or work boots, leather gloves, long pants, long-sleeved shirts and safety glasses or equivalent eye protection are required. Volunteers must be able to hike on uneven ground while carrying this old fence material. We will meet at the La Jara Field office, 15571 County RoadT.5, La Jara, CO, at 8:30 a.m.to discuss the project and then we will caravan to the job site.
