Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, or the Continental Divide Trail for short, runs 3,100 miles between Canada and Mexico. It follows the Continental Divide along the Rocky Mountains and crosses five states: Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. This stewardship project takes place at Herman's Gulch, a popular section of the trail near Bakerville, Colorado, just off I-70. Herman's Gulch is part of the Clear Creek Ranger District and Arapaho National Forest. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Join VOC to make a number of trail improvements on the Herman Gulch section of the Colorado Divide Trial. Volunteers will help construct 200 feet of a new puncheon bridge through a boggy section of the trail, work on trail drainage improvements and reconstruction, and eliminate user-created trails that have caused erosion. All trail improvements will be part of a new 4,600 foot section of the trail. The work will take place at an elevation of over 10,000 feet and will involve a hike of up to 2 miles from the trailhead to the primary worksites. Join us on this week-long challenging backcountry adventure to help maintain one of Colorado's treasures! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK. HOWEVER, WE ASK THAT YOU SIGN UP FOR AT LEAST 2 DAYS.
