Summary: Help curb erosion and invasive weed presence at Colorado's beloved Red Rocks Park.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
Red Rocks Park attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. People are drawn to the world-recognized area by concerts, movies, hikes, and the iconic geographic features throughout the park. The abundance of visitors to Red Rocks through the years has taken its toll on the natural environment. We will be working on Mt. Morrison, located behind the Red Rocks amphitheater, anarea where off-trail use is resulting in loss of vegetation and erosion damage.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
Join in this significant effort to battle user-created "social" trails on Mt. Morrison. These trails are unsafe due to their grade and disrupt soils which allow non-native plant species to establish themselves, pushing out native vegetation. If the erosion on Mt. Morrison goes unaddressed, major damage to this important scenic area may result. Volunteerwork will involve closing social trails, installing erosion control materials, installing fence or other closures if needed, controlling weeds, cleaning up, and spreading seeds.
The difficulty of the work ranges from easy to difficult. The worksites are spread out and the topography varies from flat to steep.
