Summary: Help protect this unique wetland habitat important to amphibians, birds and other wildlife.
Description:
We will be preserving this unique habitat by constructing a riparian fence around the area creating a barrier between it and the domestic livestock that share this pasture. The present fence is very old and offers little protection, it is approximately the size of a football field has been in shambles for several years in need of major re-construction
Leather hiking boots or work boots, leather gloves, long pants, long-sleeved shirts and safety glasses or equivalent eye protection are required. Volunteers must be able to hike on uneven ground and perform a variety of duties associated with fence construction. We will meet at the La Jara Field office, 15571 County Road T.5, La Jara, CO, at 8:30 a.m. to discuss the project and then we will caravan to the jobsite.
Please contact Brink Messick at 719-655-6133, or brink@voc.org with any questions and to register for this important opportunity. Thank you for volunteering on our public lands!
