Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, or the Continental Divide Trail for short, runs 3,100 miles between Canada and Mexico. It follows the Continental Divide along the Rocky Mountains and crosses five states: Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. This stewardship project takes place on the Colorado section of the trail located in the Leadville Ranger District in San Isabel National Forest. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Help construct new trail that will be part of a new 3,500 foot section of the trail. Volunteers will clear the trail corridor, work with rocks, construct new trail, and clear roots and trees on the section of trail called Sheep Gulch, near the ghost town of Winfield. The worksite will be a short hike away from base camp, located at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. Join us on this challenging backcountry adventure to help maintain one of Colorado's treasures. If completed on time, this section of trailcould be part of the Leadville 100 race in August!
