Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE The Denver Green School, a Denver public school, is home to one of three pilot farming projects on Denver Public Schools acreage. The school's one-acre farm in the corner of the schoolyard provides fresh, organic vegetables to the school cafeteria. The farm also provides Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares to the local community. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Learn about sustainable gardening in an urban setting while helping supply Denver Public School students with healthy meals made with fresh, organic produce. This morning volunteer project promises to be fun and hands-on, with opportunities to help with garden harvesting and maintenance. Volunteers spent the morning doing a variety of garden/farm maintenance including weeding, trench building, harvesting vegetables, composting, placing stakes/string to support the growth of new vegetables, and planting peas. Einstein Brother Bagels, Starbucks, SmartWool, and Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill contributed to the success of the project by providing food and prizes to our volunteers!
