Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE The historic Walker Ranch was one of the largest cattle ranches in this region of Colorado. The initial 160 acres were settled by James Walker and his family in 1883, and the homestead was complete with a root cellar, granary, smokehouse, springhouse, chicken and turkey houses, a wagon barn, a corn storage and pig barn, and various corrals and fenced pastures. When the Walker family finally sold the property in 1959, it was over 6,000 acres. Today, the Walker Ranch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a cultural landscape due to the integrity of its preserved fields, forests, and historic structures. Hikers, mountain bikers, anglers, snowshoers, equestrians and picnickers enjoy all this property has to offer. There are 3,504 acres of backcountry and approximately 10 miles of multi-use trails. The park also contains 2.5 miles of South Boulder Creek. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY The historic Walker Ranch is in need of repairs.
