We are often able to accomodate more volunteers closer to the date! STEWARDSHIP SITE Washington Park is arguably the most popular park in the Denver Parks system. Designed by German landscape architect Reinhard Scheutze in the late 1800s when the Wash Park neighborhood was in its infancy, the park is now visited by over 4,000 visitors on any given summer weekend. The park's 165 acres are home to several historic buildings including The Dos Chappell Bathhouse, home office of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado. The park also boasts 2 lakes, 1 pond, 54 flower beds, 1 recreation center, 10 tennis courts, and the Wash Park Loop, a 2.5 mile trail which covers the entire perimeter of the park. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY Due to the sheer volume of visitors to the park, the Wash Park Loop is in sore need of some TLC. The trail was originally constructed by over 800 VOC volunteers in 1993 and is need of another layer of crusher fine gravel to restore some of the rutted sections of the trail that currently present safety hazards to visitors. Volunteers will work on the northeast and western portions of the trail, continuing the work started by over 500 VOC volunteers in October, 2011. Volunteers will also plant 50 trees in the park.
