Summary: Help complete the Zapata Falls Campground, which will provide easy access to Zapata Falls, the most visited site on BLM land in the San Luis Valley.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
Zapata Falls is the most visited site on the BLM land in the San Luis Valley. The new Zapata Falls Campground is expected to be heavily used by day-use visitors as well as long-term travelers. The campground provides easy access to Zapata Falls as well as Zapata Lake. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and the Nature Conservancy can be found just a few miles down the road.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
Zapata Falls Campground has been years in the making, but requires a little help to reach completion. Volunteer work will involve improving the tent pads and campsite layout; constructing and maintaining interior campground trails; removing noxious weeds and reseeding; and improving the low loop trail system. During the work weekend, the BLM will close the campground to the public to allow VOC volunteers to camp on site.
