Summary: This month we are partnering with the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) in Golden. CMC is an organization devoted to connecting those who love the Colorado Rockies or who study or seek recreation in them. The primary purposes of the club are to gather and disseminate information regarding the Colorado mountains in the areas of art, science, literature and recreation; to furnish facilities for the enjoyment and study of the mountain by Club members and the public; and to advocate for the preservation of the alpine regions. The organization follows their mission to provide these services through sponsoring many trips, classes, and seminar dedicated to wildlife and geology study, outdoor photography and art, and other subjects for its members and public. It also encourages preservation through environmental education, trail building, restoration, and participation in public lands management decisions. CMC also hosts group programs, a youth education program and the American Mountaineering Center's library.
Cairn will be taking advantage of all CMC has to offer through a rock climbing course, team-building exercises, and learning about Colorado's mountaineering history. This partnership with CMC will provide all four components in which Cairn tries to encompass in every meeting: stewardship, recreation, education, and leadership development. Depending on weather, our afternoon may be spent indoor at CMC or hiking North Table Mountain. Let's enjoy this day in Golden with one of our favorite partners in the business!

The Cairn Youth Program met on February 9 for an intensive day of team-building to help prepare them for their final project coming up in April. In the morning, youth and mentors participated in team-building games that revolved around communication, setting goals, and strategizing. After that, students and mentors receive a brief training in rock climbing skills and then took to the wall. They received the opportunity to both climb and belay, helping them understand that safety and success happens best when working together. The afternoon was dedicated to designing t-shirts, discussing their Outdoor Nation Grant Project, and additional team-building exercises.
