Summary: The first part of the day will be held at the VOC Office. Matt Martinez, Senior Project Manager at VOC, will be giving you a quick version of the VOC/OSI Crew Leader Training. OSI stands for "Outdoor Stewardship Institute" - a branch of VOC that offers trainings such as Crew Chefs, Stewardship Advisors, Working with Youth, Crew Leaders, Technical Advisors and many others. A few of your Cairn-mates have participated in the Stewardship Advisor Training, which allows them to come on VOC projects and provide the educational component for the day. I encourage you to sign up for any and all OSI trainings, as it provides great resume support and leadership training.
The afternoon will consist of meeting with our End-of-the-Year Project Partner, Cherry Creek State Park. Today will provide you the opportunity to become familiar with the project site, the partnering agency we will be working with, the staging of where registration, lunch, tools, etc. will be, and much, much more. Picture your project going on while you are there. Be sure to ask questions and for clarifications. We will be going over the tools required, the scope of the project, how to snip and plant willows, and become aware of safety concerns.

The Cairn Youth Program met on March 16 to receive their Crew Leader Training and partake in a site visit to Cherry Creek State Park. This is their second to last meeting in preparation for their final project on April 6, where they will lead a group of their peers in a willow planting project near Muskrat Pond at Cherry Creek State Park. Students will organize lunch, deliver safety talks, give directions, etc. for the day, and execute this project from beginning to end.
