Summary: Help preserve the popular Clinton Reservoir Trail while simultaneously protecting the delicate lake ecosystem.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
Clinton Reservoir is a haunt for locals of Summit County due to its dramatic surroundings and ease-of-access. As for the Clinton Reservoir Trail that circumscribes the reservoir, not only is it a popular hiking trail with the community, it is also an access-trail for fisherman looking for that perfect spot at this excellent fishing hole.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
The current trail experiences erosion over a short section, which results in sediment building up in the lake. This sediment build-up seriously threatens native cutthroat trout habitat. By improving the trail system and reducing erosion, the community will be able to continue to enjoy a healthy Clinton Reservoir for years to come. Volunteers will help close 1.5 miles of old, eroding trail, and construct 1 mile of new, sustainable trail. New trail construction will consist of basic trail construction as well as rock wall installation and construction of stream crossings.

Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers:
Summit County prepared a thank you card which I (Dan) emailed to all of the volunteers. It's saved in the Clinton Folder in 2013 projects on the I:Drive.
In spite of lower than desired numbers, some great work was accomplished by volunteers and a veteran group of crew leaders and project team members. The walls and culverts were of especially good quality.
Quote from evaluation received from Katie Kent (saved in I:Drive) Summit County Open Space Resource Specialist.:
"The effort Dan, Wayne, John, Joe, Nancy, Becky, Claudia & Tom put in before the project was great. Also, all of the crew leaders during the project were spectacular."
Email recevived from volunteer Dave Slowey:
"Good food, Good music, Good people, Awesome Rocks!"
Description of Accidents/Incidents:
Description of Work Completed:
On the weekend of August 17-18, 53 volunteers worked to maintain a section of trail that loops around Clinton Reservoir in Summit County. Volunteers stabilized and maintained 2,000 feet of trail, installed 2 culverts and a large drain, built 8 rock steps and two rock walls, and stabilized two stream crossings. Over the course of the weekend, volunteers moved an impressive 2 tons of rock! The weekend also included great food and a stellar performance by local musician, Drew Reges.
