Summary: Celebrate National Trails Day by helping expand and improve the Givelo Memorial Trail in Fraser Valley.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
The Fraser River Valley within Middle Park is simply gorgeous, which is why many-including at one time President Eisenhower-have made it their vacation destination of choice. But the full breadth of its beauty would not be accessible if not for the Givelo Memorial Trail, a non-motorized, family-friendly trail which serves as the link between the Town of Fraser and the USFS lands to the west.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
Despite being a vital link between the Town of Fraser and the USFS trail system, there are many issues with the Givelo Memorial Trail. Join us on National Trails Day as we widen the trail to give it a greater capacity for foot-traffic. Volunteers will also be improving the original trail to make it both easier-to-traverse and more sustainable. Specifically, volunteers will be cutting back willow to clear the trail corridor, widening the trail tread, building a turnpike, and addressing additional drainage issues.

On June 1st, in celebration of National Trails Day, 34 VOC volunteers worked to restore the Givelo Memorial Trail. Volunteers worked hard to improve 20 feet of turnpike, 700 ft of crusher fine trail and install one culvert. After a hard day of work, the volunteers have ensured the continued and sustainable safe access from the town of Fraser to Forest Service Lands.
