Help restore the Lost Creek Trail in the beautiful Mt. Evans Wilderness.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
Mt. Evans Wilderness consists of 74,401 acres located approximately 40 miles west of Denver. The area boasts two 14er peaks and numerous unique features, including evidence of past glaciers, small regions of arctic tundra, a wide variety of vegetation, and several species of wildlife. The Lost Creek Trail is an access point into the wilderness, passing through a beautiful lodgepole pine, aspen, and spruce forest.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
A big blow down in 2012 left this area's trails hard to navigate. We will be working in this area for two single work days. Volunteers will hike in about a mile and half from the trailhead. Work will involve bucking down trees to clear the trail. Volunteers will require USFS certified crosscut saw training to use a crosscut saw. Those without a certification will be able to help limb trees before they are cut, a very critical job. If you would like to register for a crosscut saw training, check out VOC's Training Calendar here: https://fw.civicore.com/voc/index.php?section=trainingOpportunties&action=list&Itemid=306

Description of Work Completed:
On a beautiful weekend in the Mt. Evans wilderness, 12 volunteers worked to clear trees and improve passage along the Lost Creek Trail. A big blow down in 2012 left this area's trails hard to navigate. Volunteers began their day with a 3-mile hike to the worksite and from there began the work of removing an impressive 76 trees from the trail!
