Stewardship Education:
Matt Grove provided the background of Red Dirt. Ithas a lot of cattle activity that has destroyed the vegetation along the creek that runs down the canyon. The purpose of the reveg is to stabilze the creek banks and re-establish vegetation to create a more productive environment for the fish species residing in the creek.
Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers:
This was a great partnership. ERWC provided excellent parameters for their volunteers to work in, while providing safety. I was the VOC representative that aided in the coordination of volunteers on the project day. Communication of needs and resources was effective. The 18 volunteers worked so hard and fast that they accomplished everything in one day when it was scheduled for two. The USFS continued to work with ERWC on 2 other projects on Red Dirt that did not involve the planting of roses and willows--I was not a part of these projects.
Description of Accidents/Incidents:
none
Description of Work Completed:
On May 17, 2013, 18 volunteers from the Eagle River Watershed Council joined myself and USFS employee, Matt Grove, in the reveg of Red Dirt. Red Dirt has a lot of cattle activity that has destroyed the vegetation along the creek that runs down the canyon. The purpose of the reveg is to stabilze the creek banks and re-establish vegetation. ERWC planted 100 immature rose bushes and 80 willow cuttings along a 1 mile stretch of creek.
