Summary: Help reroute the Fraser to Granby trail away from the sensitive wetland ecosystem near Ten Mile Creek.
Description:
STEWARDSHIP SITE
As part of the 20-plus mile Fraser to Granby trail (which actually extends as far as Winter Park), the targeted trail section between Fraser and Granby-which travels alongside Ten Mile Creek through the Granby Ranch-is an important, family-friendly link between a number of communities and trail systems. And since it begins in Winter Park and ends in the Sol Vista Ski Area, it is popular with visitors as well, especially cross-country skiers.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
This section of trail runs directly through a sensitive wetland ecosystem near Ten Mile Creek and poses a health risk to the ecosystem. Volunteers will reroute a section of trail to remove it from this sensitive wetland ecosystem. Volunteers will begin by closing the existing trail and re-seeding the area. Volunteers will then construct a new section of sustainable trail on the hillside above the wetland, along an easement that Granby Ranch has graciously donated.

Description of Work Completed:
On June 28th 47 volunteers rerouted a section of the Fraser to Granby trail. Volunteers closed 225 feet of trail that made its way through a sensitive wetland area. They then constructed 400 feet of new trail up the hill side and away from the wetland area. The new trail included 20 feet of turnpike to account for spring melt. The project was a great success and our partners at Headwaters Trail Alliance were very happy with the days work.
