Summary: Assist Visitors of the Rio Grande National Forest and live in historic Creede, Colorado
Description:
The primary purpose of this volunteer position is to provide Visitor Information to visitors of the Rio Grande National Forest specifically the upper Rio Grande valley. Volunteers are expected to serve 2 days a week with additional days on occasion and during peak season.The duty station for this opportunity islocated at the Forest Service Ranger Station in Creede, Colorado. The Creede Station receives the highest volume of visitors throughout the Forest during the busy summer months. This is an ideal position for individual(s) who like to share their knowledge, learn from the areas visitors, and make a positive difference in a visitors travels.
In addition to interacting with the visitors the Volunteer(s) perform various other daily activities for visitor center operations including:
Unlocking and locking the facility
Answering telephones
Replying to inquiries for general information about Forest Service activities, programs, and policies.
Assist in the printing and distributing of public handout materials, maps, and other Natural Resource related publications.
Collect and secure monies, for both Forest Service products and interpretive products carried through the San Juan Mountains Association.
Opportunities to get out and learn the area roads, trails, and sights will be availible periodically
An RV pad with full hook ups oruse of USFS bunk house will be provided toVolunteer for the entire term of service.Pets negotiable.
