The Urban Farm is a non-profit organization that helps improve the lives of high risk children living in urban neighborhoods. They achieve this by providing exposure and opportunities (horsemanship, land management, gardening, etc.) to under-privileged children. We will be asked to do a number of tasks from feeding the animals to helping clean stables and/or anything in-between. We will get dirty and the day will be rewarding! As a non-profit the Urban Farm relies on groups like ours to help maintain the positive programs they provide.. Description: This month we are partnering with the Urban Farm. They learned about the farm's mission to reach underserved urban youth, viewed the hydroponic gardening operations, and got to explore and visit the different animals the farm keeps. Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed: The Cairn students worked a half day project at The Urban Farm near Denver's Stapleton neighborhood. Tasks included de-icing animal water troughs by simply breaking up the ice and re-filling with fresh water, and installing new fencing in some of the animal pens. The students de-iced 30 troughs and installed roughly 40 ft of new fencing.
