Summary: Vail Ski and Board Academy brought 28 high schoolers and 2 chaperones/teachers to help on a half-day project on BLM land, putting in posts to improve the parking area of the Colombine trailhead. Located just minutes from Salida, the students met at the Salida Ranger District and caravanned to the trailhead with Allison Stewart and BLM staff. The hillside was re-seeded with native wildflower seed and rocks were collected from the trail and put into the drainage to keep mountain bikers/hikers from taking an unsustainable shortcut to the parking lot.
Description: ~16 posts were put in along the parking lot. Wildflower seed was dispersed on the hillside. Rocks were transported from the trail into the natural rock drainage to prevent social trail use.
