Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE
Observatory Park, home to the University of Denver's historic Chamberlin Observatory, is a small but open park tucked out of sight just east of the DU campus. In addition to the Observatory which hosts public events from time to time, the park features an extensive playground area, open fields perfect for picnicking or a pickup game of Frisbee.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
VOC islooking for volunteers to perform one final harvest before putting the new gardens to rest for the winter. This project is one of several where we will be wrapping up the gardening season for those Denver City Park vegetable gardens planted in the spring. The produce harvested from this project will be donated to organizations that help individuals in need. Volunteer work will be fun, easy, and child-friendly.Tasks will involve harvesting, weeding, and raking the soil one final time.

Description of Work Completed: In partnership with Grow Local Colorado, 9 adult and 2 youth volunteers harvested and winterized a 250 sq ft.garden bed at Observatory Park. Volunteers removed all vegetation that was planted by VOC and Grow Local in May, ensuring the garden will be prepped and ready for next year, gathering 25 lbs of vegetables for local food banks along the way! Vegetables harversted included Tomatoes, Jerusalem Artichokes, Carrots,various Leafy Greens and many others!
