Description: STEWARDSHIP SITE
Urban Peak is an organization that helps homeless and at-risk youth overcome real life challenges by providing essential services and a safe community, empowering them to become self-sufficient adults.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
This project is one of several in which we will be partnering with Grow Local Colorado to plant vegetable gardens whose purpose is to demonstrate the beauty of edible gardens, engage community participation, and inspire Denver residents to grow their own vegetable gardens. In addition, all produce will be donated to local organizations including local food banks, homeless shelters, and families in need.
Volunteer work will be fun, easy, and child-friendly. Tasks will involve preparing the garden beds, weeding, working the soil, and planting vegetable seeds and seedlings.

Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Working with Grow Local Colorado is an easy and pain-free experience. Barbara is wonderful. I think that the Urban Peak location should have a MAX of 20 volunteers--the space is too small for more than that.
Description of Accidents/Incidents:
Description of Work Completed: On Thursday, October 9th, 15 volunteers showed up in the pouring rain to harvest the vegetable garden at the Urban Peak homeless shelter. The work went quickly-- volunteers harvested and tilled the land, and were done within 40 minutes. Grow Local Colorado got a donation of Chipotle burritos, which was a nice reward for the soaking wet volunteers.
