STEWARDSHIP SITE
The aptly named Stone Quarry Trail System winds its way through a geologically rich area just outside the town of Del Norte, Colorado. Several abandoned quarry sites in the area are the source of the stone that built many of the historic buildings in Monte Vista and other surrounding towns. Unique rock formations, sweeping panoramic views of the San Luis Valley, and the towering Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range all come together here, creating a picturesque landscape.
VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY
The Stone Quarry Trail System is a citizen proposed trail system that will be open for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use. Volunteers will utilize standard trail building techniques to construct a new section of the Stone Quarry Trail. Volunteers will also install more technical features such as rock structures. Once completed, the trail willincrease access to various recreational activities in the San Luis Valley.
