Summary: One day youth SWAT with CSU at the Vista Grande Trail System
Description: Volunteers from Colorado State University will participate in a Sustainable Trails Work Shop and Trail Construction day on Monday March 17 from 09:00 to 14:00 at the Vista Grande proposed trail system Physical activity will be primarily easy to moderate with occasional tasks requiring a higher level of physical fitness. Required PPE for the project will include hardhats, gloves, eye protection, durable long pants, and leather boots or sturdy closed toed shoes. Hardhats and gloves will be provided by the BLM. Volunteers will not be operating a government vehicle, transportation to and from the worksite will be provided by Colorado State University. The project will be supervised by Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator Brink Messick.
The primary goal of this project is to introduce students to the concepts of "sustainable" trail construction and to build a portion of the Vista Grande Trail System. This full bench trail construction project will require the use of hand tools including shovels, Pulaski's, McLoeds, pick mattocks, rock bars, loppers, hand saws, rock bars, double jack sledge hammers, single jack sledge hammers, and axes. Required tasks include but are not limited to digging, broadcasting soil, clearing brush, clearing trail corridor, lifting and transporting rocks weighing up to and over 50 lbs., transplanting vegetation, and removing obstacles such as rock and timber.
Volunteers will be required to behave in a manner appropriate to the workplace.

Possession or use of any illegal drugs (including medicinal marijuana)
Use of Government -owned or Government-leased vehicles, property, tools, equipment, or telephones except as provided in the volunteer agreement
Fighting, use of derogatory language, intimidating behavior, discrimination, sexual harassment, violent or threatening behavior
Possession of pets without special permission of the district ranger or line officer
Violation of any State game and fish regulation
Violation of any Federal, State, or local law
Selling of distributing non-agency products or literature in a Forest Service facility
Disclosing confidential information
Violation of any of the above prohibitions may constitute grounds for dismissal or other disciplinary action.
