Start Date-End Date: 08/04/2014-08/07/2014 Land Manager Office: Land Manager Contact: Funding Partner: Colorado Trout Unlimited Programmatic Partner: BLM - Saguache Field Office Summary: BSA Troop 7201 from Pratt Kansas assisted the BLM and USFS for 4 days. Description: Volunteers with BSA Troop 7201 from Pratt Kansas led by Ted Loomis will volunteer from 8/4 through 8/8 with the San Luis Valley BLM and the Saguache Ranger District of the Rio Grande National Forest, other partners with this volunteer opportunity include US Fish and Wildlife, Kerber Creek Restoration Project, and Trout Unlimited. Work must be completed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Volunteers will participate in a variety of activities including but not limited to, habitat improvement, erosion control, trail maintenance, trail construction, fence removal, fence construction. Tasks may require the use of hand tools such as fencing pliers, shovels, McLeods, Pulaski, axe, hand saws, pick mattocks, rock bars etc. Tools will be provided by project managers. The use of chainsaws, cross cut saws or any other tool requiring a USFS or BLM certification to operate is prohibited unless the operator has presented his or her valid certification to the managing government representative. The required physical activity to complete the assigned tasks will vary from moderate to difficult. Volunteers will work on approved projects only, but may work unsupervised once lined out by a project manager. List of prohibited activities: Possession or use of firearms except when authorized (Health and Safety Code Handbook, Chapter 17) Consumption of intoxicating beverages Possession or use of any illegal drugs (including medicinal marijuana) Use of Government -owned or Government-leased vehicles, property, tools, equipment, or telephones except as provided in the volunteer agreement Fighting, use of derogatory language, intimidating behavior, discrimination, sexual harassment, violent or threatening behavior Possession of pets without special permission of the district ranger or line officer Violation of any State game and fish regulation Violation of any Federal, State, or local law Selling of distributing non-agency products or literature in a Forest Service facility Disclosing confidential information Violation of any of the above prohibitions may constitute grounds for dismissal or other disciplinary action.
