Start Date-End Date: 09/17/2014-09/17/2014 Land Manager Office: BLM - San Luis Valley Land Manager Contact: Sean Noonan Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: 1/2 day SWAT focussing on trails with the Aspen School District Description: Volunteers with the Aspen School District will be helping the BLM restore trail at the Penitente Canyon Recreation Area on September 16th 2014. This project includes duties and tasks that will require a light to heavy amount of physical activity. Volunteers will be responsible for judging their own physical ability and choose tasks appropriately. Work will consist of all tasks applicable to new trail construction, common duties include: - Travel over unlevel ground loaded and unloaded - Digging with tools - Moving soil, rocks, slash and other debris weighing up to and sometimes more than 50lbs -The use of hand tools such as shovels, rock bars, McLeods, Pulaskis, loppers, pick mattocks, sledge hammers, hand saws, etc. - Building trail structures with rocks and other native material. -Restoration of user created trail or abandoned trail. -Clearing corridor with cutting tools and dispersing slash. All tools and equipment will be provided by Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and the BLM. Camping is available but all after hours and extracurricular activities are not included in the Volunteer Agreement. List of prohibited activities: Possession or use of firearms except when authorized (Health and Safety Code Handbook, Chapter 17) Consumption of intoxicating beverages Possession or use of any illegal drugs (including medicinal marijuana) Use of Government -owned or Government-leased vehicles, property, tools, equipment, or telephones except as provided in the volunteer agreement Fighting, use of derogatory language, intimidating behavior, discrimination, sexual harassment, violent or threatening behavior Possession of pets without special permission of the district ranger or line officer Violation of any State game and fish regulation Violation of any Federal, State, or local law Selling of distributing non-agency products or literature in a Forest Service facility Disclosing confidential information Violation of any of the above prohibitions may constitute grounds for dismissal or other disciplinary action.
