Description: 30th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE PROJECT This year Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado turns 30! This project is one of nine 30th Anniversary Commemorative Projects we are hosting to highlight VOC's long-standing history caring for Colorado's outdoors. STEWARDSHIP SITE St. Vrain State Park, located north of the Denver Metropolitan Area, is one of Colorado's forty-two State Parks. While it boasts spectacular views of the Front Range and excellent fishing, it is most famous for its spectacular birding as it is home to both herons and egrets-one of only a few Colorado sites where these elegant birds can be found. VOLUNTEER PROJECT - WHAT & WHY September 2013 flooding devastated the park and caused widespread damage resulting in the temporary closure of the park. Volunteers have been helping put the park back together and VOC will continue those efforts to restore the park to pre-flood conditions. In addition, volunteers will be building a new trail to expand access for fishing, hiking, and birding. Volunteers will work in crews to help transport and spread crusher fine to complete the new trail around Red Tail Pond. This was VOCs 9th and final 30th anniversary commemorative project. The project highlighted VOCs longstanding partnership with CO State Parks as well as our partnership with corporations throughout the state. This particular project highlighted VOCs partnership with Anadarko. The project was a great success and the volunteers were able to complete .25 mile of crusher fine trail. The park staff previously "roughed" in the trail and on the day of the project volunteers created the back slope and laid crusher fine for the trail tread.
