Love people? Love Nature? If you love to share your appreciate for our National Forest, we've got a job for you!
Duties: Meet and greet visitors to the Salida Ranger District by helping staff the front desk. Staffing includes answering phones, providing information to visitors on recreational opportunities, selling maps and books from the GARNA sales outlets and assisting Forest Service personnel with a variety of projects. Training will be on-the-job and volunteers will be given opportunities to learn about our National Forest and help to support the mission of "Caring for the Land and Serving People." Visitor information covers a wide range of topics from plant and animal identification, rules and regulations to trip planning. Volunteers may participate in environmental education programming and planning. Volunteers will also work with our partner organization, GARNA, to promote their mission of education and conservation of local natural and historic resources.
Helpful Skills: Computer skills, ability to learn information in a fast paced setting, professional phone skills, clerical skills and knowledge of our local Forest and various recreational opportunities.
Volunteers must commit to set times to volunteer, in order to facilitate a routine schedule of coverage.
