While it boasts spectacular views of the Front Range and excellent fishing, it is most famous for its spectacular birding as it is home to both herons and egrets - one of only a few Colorado sites where these elegant birds can be found. ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER PROJECT The Blue Heron Pond at St Vrain State Park is the largest at the park and offers great fishing and birding opportunities. This is one of the last ponds in the park to have a trail built around its perimeter. The three-mile trail will improve fishing access and give recreationalists another hiking opportunity in the park. Volunteers will work in crews to help build new trail, and transport and spread crusher fine to construct the trail around Blue Heron Pond. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
