The morning consisted of discussions and activities to teach various aspects of volunteer crew leadership. In the afternoon, the students previewed the various portions of their upcoming Student Led project in April, and had a chance to practice some of the trail skills they will use. Successes and Challenges: We tried a whole new, activity based outdoor format for the crew leadership training, focusing mostly on safety and motivating volunteers. We tried to squeeze in a lot which led to a time crunch at the end of the day. Part of this can be attributed to the project, which covers a lot of ground. Further refinement of the new training process should lead to a more efficient day in 2016. Lessons Learned: The activity based training seemed well received. Reccomend sticking with this format.
