We started off the day playing ice breakers in the VOC office, and then all drove down together. Upon our arrival, we listened to the Flying W staff talk about safety, and fire ecology- specifically of the Waldo Canyon fire. We learned what the purpose of a Log Erosion Barrier (LEB) is, and then got to work! Cairn students put in almost 40 LEBs, and surpassed what the staff thought they could accomplish. Successes and Challenges: There was traffic on I-25 (per usual), so the ride just seemed to take forever. Lessons Learned: Building LEBs was great. Working in burn scars is fun and educational, and the Cairn students really seemed to enjoy the work. Special Notes: Stewardship Education: In depth education provided by the staff from Flying W Ranch. Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed:
