Description: ABOUT THE STEWARDSHIP SITE The Lost Creek Wilderness Area, located 60 miles southwest of Denver,experienced heavy rain and flooding during the fall of 2013. The area's Wigwam Trail, which is primarily used for pleasant hiking through aspen groves and features a number of beaver ponds,sustained substantial damage and now requires urgent rehabilitation. ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER WORK During the four planned project work days, volunteers will perform maintenance caused by the extreme rainfall. Maintenance work may include constructing drainage structures using rock, re-establishing treadand outslope, and cleaning out and reinforcing existing drainage structures, among other tasks. A U.S. Forest Service member will be a part of each project crew in order to safely clear fallen trees that inhibit the use of the existing trail.
