The City of Lakewood had purchased around 1000 plants, and we put about half of them in the ground. The kids had a good time planting in the muddy water. Successes and Challenges: McLain High School is a school for kids that haven't found success in a traditional high school. A lot of the kids come from difficult backgrounds, and have trouble academically. A lot of them really liked getting outside & not being in the classroom, however, at the end of the time things started to fall apart. Some of the kids were getting testy with each other, but their teacher was tuned in, and they just left a little early. Lessons Learned: Keep things moving for groups like that! Special Notes: Erik Nilsen at City of Lakewood is the best. He has worked with a lot of youth groups, and knew when they needed to leave. Stewardship Education: Provided by VOC staff & City of Lakewood staff. Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed:
