Latitude/Longitude: 39.639999, -104.831691 Additional Information: Camping Available: No Physical Difficulty: Easy High Altitude Project: No Desired Number of Volunteers: 50 Total Adult Volunteers Attended: 12 Total Youth Volunteers Attended: 50 Total Volunteer Days: 62 Total Unique Volunteers: 62 Total Volunteer Hours: 217 Staff Hours: 10 Stipend Hours: 0 Project Summary: On Wednesday, November 4th, 50 third graders from Stanley British Primary School came out to Cherry Creek State Park to help remove invasive species. When the school arrived to the park, they started the day off with team building games. Then, the park resource technician gave a short talk on the importance of the work to put it in perspective for the kids. The third graders were excited to get to work! With about 1.5 hrs of work time, they were able to clear out about 2 acres of curly dock, and several of the kids talked about how much they enjoyed the work. Successes and Challenges: The combination of games, stewardship education and weed removal worked really well. The kids were never bored or restless. Lessons Learned: Special Notes: Stewardship Education: Importance of the work, and ecology of the worksite was provided by CCSP resource technician, and general stewardship education was provided by VOC staff.
